“Accelerate Your Career Success!”
Take this quiz to find out how to put yourself on the fast track to success!

Most of us want to find the fastest way from point A to point B. I imagine you want to do this with your career too.  As a new college grad and/or a young professional, I imagine you also want to find as many tips and tricks as possible to give you an edge in your career. Take this quiz to find out how you can accelerate your career success!

1)

Select the answer that fits closest to your reality: During your first 90 days at a new job, I feel the need to:
Make friends with everyone, including my boss, and start my social life over again by going out every night with everyone I have just met.
Build rapport with the people I work with by setting up weekly lunch appointments with people I want to learn more about.
Find out what is expected of me, begin building my network at this company/firm, and get a few accomplishments under my belt.

2)

I have a personal brand statement that I review regularly.
True
False

3)

I have written personal vision & mission statement and reviewed it in the past
Week

Year
I do not have a written personal vision & mission statement

4)

How true is this statement - I have written goals for each role I play in life (e.g. sister, son, colleague, spiritual, etc), and review the goals regularly.
Very true
True
Not very true
Not true at all

5)

As a new college grad, I can expect everyone at my new job to:
Value my expertise because I just graduated with a college degree - I have the freshest knowledge.
Be just like me and think like me.
Be of different backgrounds, ages, and experiences, and hopefully will respect the differences I bring to the table.

6)

I need to find a mentor ASAP because
I need someone to teach me the unwritten rules here.
I need to advance my career quickly.
I need to learn a particular area that the company doesn't offer training for.
I need career advice.

7)

What is the best way to exceed expectations at your new job?
When someone gives you an assignment, don't ask questions and get the work done as fast as possible.
Ask for work and meet deadlines.
Find new assignments outside of your scope of responsibilities and complete these projects.
When given a project, clarify expectations, do your homework, and overdeliver on the results. THEN, find new assignments that will stretch your abilities and complete those as you are able to (in addition to your day to day responsibilities).

8)

How do you manage your time?
I shoot from the hip and take assignments as they come
I am as proactive as I can be by making a to do list daily
I make a to do list weekly
I check my e-mail frequently and make my to do list from there

9)

What are the strategies you are currently using to build your network?
I use Facebook and MySpace (and other social networking sites) to build my network.
I am an active member of a professional organization and am building my network from there.
I am depending on my college friends to build my network.
I do all of the above, PLUS, I know I can build my network through colleagues I currently work with, community service activities I participate in, and my family.
